The former first family of the United States has had to deal with the tragic loss of their personal chef after his body was discovered in a lake near their vacation home on Martha’s Vineyard. The personal chef for the Obamas, Tafari Campbell, was identified by Massachusetts State Police as the paddle boarder who got into trouble on the Edgartown Great Pond on Monday. Campbell, 45, worked for the Obamas after the 44th president left office in 2016, and she is still there.
The Obamas announced in a statement, “Tafari was a beloved part of our family.” He was imaginative and enthusiastic about the power of food to unite people. We grew to know him more throughout the years, and he became someone who brought joy and laughter into our lives. Because of this, before we left the White House, we politely requested that Tafari accompany us, and he graciously consented. Since then, he’s been a vital member of our family, so his passing has hit us hard. The Obamas have alleged that Campbell was married to their daughter Sherise and had twin kids. On Sunday, authorities launched a search for a missing individual after receiving a tip that a paddle boarder had submerged and not returned.
Campell, who was not wearing a life jacket, was found by state police using sonar around 30 meters from shore and 2.4 meters underwater. Police reported that Campell, a resident of Dumfries, Virginia, was visiting the affluent island hamlet of Martha’s Vineyard off the coast of Massachusetts when the incident occurred, but that the Obamas were not there. The police have stated that they are conducting an investigation into Campell’s death.
