According to local media, five people were murdered and 13 others were injured when a car crashed into groups of people at two popular pedestrian crossings in the city of Guangzhou and raced away from the scene of devastation. According to China’s state-owned Global Times media source, a 22-year-old man was seized by authorities following the horrible event on Wednesday in Guangdong province in southern China.

Several video recordings of the purported incident were uploaded on social media, reportedly taken by dash cams in other vehicles. Video evidence showing a dark-colored sports utility vehicle travelling at high speeds, colliding with pedestrians, and then speeding away. Those who were hit by the fast automobile were left on the road. According to the China Global Television Network (CGTN), local officials apprehended the driver and are investigating the event. Other information was not supplied. The accident was the second frightening event involving a motorist recorded on video in China in two days. On Tuesday, a sports vehicle was observed speeding into the lobby of an expensive hotel in Shanghai, according to local media, after a visitor had a disagreement with the management. A witness captured footage of the white truck entering the hotel lobby and drove over collapsed door frames before moving erratically and knocking over things. There were no reported injuries as a result of the incident.A

According to Reporters, a number of men attempted to surround the car before it drove again and came to a halt in front of the lobby doors. The building in the footage was the Jinling Purple Mountain Hotel in Shanghai. In connection with the event, a 28-year-old male was detained. According to police authorities reported by local media, a preliminary inquiry found that the driver was furious owing to the loss of a laptop during a stay at the hotel.
